The work
This three-quarter-acre lot had some history. It sat right in the corner turn of an old quarter-horse race track, and by the time we got there it was forgotten pasture: low, and slow to drain.
We ran a John Deere 450G dozer, a 75 hp Deere tractor pulling a four-yard dirt pan, and a vibratory sheepsfoot roller to completely reshape the property over about a week. A-4 soil got hauled in to build and compact an 80 by 80 by 2-foot house pad, then the rest of the lot was reshaped and graded so it drains the way a homesite should, with a driveway cut in to match.
A piece of forgotten race track is a working family homestead now, complete with cattle, horses, and a big chicken coop.
