The work
This was the last one-acre tract left in the area, and for good reason. It sat low, it barely drained, and two of its four sides were boxed in by ditched levees. The owner wanted a homesite out of it anyway.
We brought in a Komatsu 31PX dozer, a vibratory sheepsfoot roller, and a 38 hp Kubota tractor and reshaped the whole acre over about five days. The levees came down, the topsoil got pushed aside, and we built and compacted a 90 by 80 by 2-foot house pad. Then we ripped up and regraded the rest of the lot, setting the grade so the property sheds water clean instead of holding it.
This one is personal. It was the first house pad J 1:9 Land Services ever completed, and it happens to be the owner’s own home. The standard we held on our own ground is the standard we have run every job to since.
